Dress Code

The purpose of a school ‘Dress Code’ is to promote a positive, safe and respectful learning environment for our students. While at school, students and staff are expected to wear clothing appropriate for all school related activities. The term “appropriate” is defined as:

  • Free of inappropriate language and/or graphics (weapons; profanity; vulgarity; remarks/images which are discriminatory, derogatory, or offensively suggestive; advertising for products which are illegal for minors to purchase).
  • Shorts, skirts, dresses are to be a reasonable length. Revealing clothes are not suitable for school. A complete covering of the midriff, undergarments or underwear need to remain out of sight.
  • Hats, ball caps, hoods, or visors are to be removed upon entering the school. (Exceptions may be granted by the school administration for medical conditions or religious reasons consistent with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.)
  • Shoes or indoor footwear must be worn at all times. Running shoes/sneakers are required for physical education classes and on the playground equipment at all times.
  • Sunglasses are not to be worn inside the school unless medically required.

All students and staff are expected to comply with the school ‘Dress Code’, as defined, on school grounds or while participating in any school functions. Infractions of this ‘Dress Code’ will result in students being asked to cover/remove inappropriate attire and parents/guardians being notified in order to seek support for the policy.
